Hey Amsra! Always nice to hear from folks I knew back in the Aquilo days. Although "server legend" is quite an exaggeration. More like "server annoyance."
As for my role, yes it recently changed. I was the Director of Community and Lead Content Designer. While two roles on a game of this type would be unbearable under live game circumstances, since we are a ways from launch the community aspects of my job were pretty light and I was able to concentrate mostly on game design.
From the first days of the company we said we wanted to be more than just a games studio, that we planned to craft an IP with the depth and breadth needed to encompass multiple games and a host of other media. We want each product to stand on its own, yet ensure that encountering the IP in other formats would make the overall experience richer and more satisfying.
So we needed someone who could act as protector of this phenomenal IP so that every product related to it is consistent, compelling, and cool. Since I know the IP so well and have been one of the people crafting it since day one of this studio, it was a natural fit for me to transition over to Creative Director.
The MMO is definitely the cornerstone of the IP, so a lot of my efforts remain on this project and the awesome story experience we're putting together. But I also work with the BHG team to ensure their RPG is every bit as entwined in the Copernicus metaverse as the MMO. And as other extensions of our brand come online, I get to beat people over the head to make sure every product has the quality worthy to be a part of this IP experience.
My unofficial title is "IP Czar." Curt in particular likes to refer to me that way. Just ask him!
