Each member of the 38 Studios design team works to maintain the design style and vision of the project and functions as part of an interdisciplinary team, leveraging personal experience and creative thinking to produce compelling content to exceptionally high quality standards, with a keen eye for aesthetics and game mechanics. Position Responsibilities
* Work with design leads to design and implement game content and/or game systems.
* Writes and maintains game design documentation as assigned by supervising design lead.
* Works within a collaborative team environment to accomplish inter-departmental tasks.
* Provides support for non-development departments (marketing, web, community, etc.) as defined by supervising design lead.
* Develops and maintains expertise with common design software, including but not limited to: word processing, spreadsheets, flow chart and visualization tools, as well as proprietary internal development tools.
* Participates in meetings and departmental discussion to establish and maintain design vision.
Knowledge, skills & ability requirements
* Knowledge: A genuine passion for playing and making great games. Expertise with standard design tools and software packages. Strong working knowledge of standard scripting logic, procedures, and working experience with common scripting languages such as PERL, Python, LUA, and UnrealScript. Expertise in working with source control software such as Perforce. Demonstrated experience with game engines and required middleware technology such as BigWorld and Unreal 3. Has an excellent working understanding of core design philosophy, theory, and practices.
* Competencies: Excellent oral and written communication skills. Solid organization and efficient time management skills. Motivated and objective-driven team member. Able to collaborate with other game developers in a results-driven environment. Effective self-tasker. Expertise within a specialized design discipline, including game systems, play mechanics, world content, or creative writing. Able to work closely with game designers and engineers, including a strong working knowledge with game development terminology. Able and willing to create game mechanics and creative content to the highest quality standards. A keen eye for aesthetics as well as game mechanics, including approaches to meta-structure and storytelling.
* Experience: Minimum 2 years of applicable industry experience. MMO experience preferred.
