A Song of Fire and Ice by George R.R. Martin

Yeah, I just started reading this series and I gotta say... wow.. it is just beyond belief good. I've read a lot of books in my time, but this series is one that is simply a must read for anyone of likes fantasy. So, has anyone else on this forum read the book(s)? If so, what did you think of it?

read it. Felt it wasn't what people made it out to be. ie it wasn't as good as people hyped it up

Re: A Song of Fire and Ice by George R.R. Martin

I'm finishing up my re-read of Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time. It's a long read and dry at points but I like it. I started reading A Game of Thrones a couple years ago but got sidetracked. It's next on my list. Salvatore's Drizzt books are phenomenal for keeping the reader interested from beginning to end, I'll probably re-read those before Copernicus is released to compare to the story lines.

I loved the Song of F&I series. Jordan's books are great too. He has a new one coming out in November (post-mortem). Stephen Donaldson books are also favorites: Lord Foul's Bane. It takes a while to get into the first book, but he ends up building a great world.

You are all aware that HBO is shooting a pilot for a long term series based on this right? They are filming in Ireland and Morrocco starting next month I think. Sean Bean has been cast as Ned Stark, Peter Dinklage as Tyrion. They are putting some sreious money into it. If the series gets picked up, it's set to be 7 seasons....1 season per book. Here's a link to info

Winter Is Coming - News and rumors about HBO's Game of Thrones

I can't wait....I loved Rome and Song needs the same kind of reality.

man oh man, what the heck does Bob have to do to get a series on tv? Seriously, more than 20 years of novels in a single series, and STILL no deal? sheesh

Yes. However, considering the company you're keeping here all is forgiven.

Re: A Song of Fire and Ice by George R.R. Martin

Sounds like filming is going great, HBO is putting some serious money into the pilot and have some fantastic people working on it. Their FX guy is the guy who did John Adams so I'd expect some fabulous CGI backgrounds. See my link above for all the latest news!
