First MMO

I always find interesting to talk about the first time people got into MMO's.

For me actually I was big into console gaming, but my wife's co-worker was telling her about this game that he plays all the time then sells his account for RL money to buy new computers and parts and stuff. She thought that was interesting enough to try out the game. At the time it was crazy to think people would pay RL money for ingame items or accounts.

So she bought EQ and gave it a try while I sat in the other room playing my console game. Then I got a chance to see the world and how people were able communicate with each other and we both got hooked. It was a total social thing for us. We would play the game together all the time. With console games we didn't always have co-op playing but in a MMO it was totally team playing with each other.

As time went on we played the different XP's of EQ and moved onto other MMOs. Now have a happy little home in WOW but still have that quality time playing a game together. Actually its kinda funny now we even have my 64yr father playing with us.

Re: First MMO

I had a family like that in my guild in EQ! It was a lot of fun.

The son was overseas in the service, so they'd all get together online to visit. Kinda made us all happy to see them together!

Re: First MMO

I have to say its pretty great to be able to hang out with my wife & my father a few times a week online.

Its actually kinda funny trying to explain to people that don't play MMO's or online games. They have trouble understanding the whole communication process.

Yup. The avatars become very familiar to you and take on a life of their own. I "hear" the words I see rather than just read them. Everyone has their own voice and personality. It's no wonder some of us have a hard time deleting pixils for a new one.

Re: First MMO

It is amazing how attached you become to your toon. I think about my EQ toon and it brings a smile to my face. I had a boring looking green lookin robe but still it was my toon.

A year or more ago EQ ran a welcome back program and I jumped into the game just to see my toon and she what happened to worl. Its like walking down memory lane. It game me a better point of view when the company I worked at took down its game and people weren't happy.

Re: First MMO

So true, and so sad!

SoE has ruined EQ. I can't even log in now without wanting to cry. They banned my last real friend there a couple months ago for something he didn't do (and I know him well enough to know he didn't! He was an original!) and never gave him a chance. Not sure what happened to decent CS, except most of it went to India and they just don't get it!

Note to Curt: PLEEEEZE...no outsourcing talent, ok? We have enough ppl here that need jobs who speak English!

Re: First MMO

Started with Guild wars, then EQ2 (SOE is SCUM), LotRol (Lifetime member), Richard Garriott's Tabula Rasa (played a bit in the Beta), Age of Conan (played in the tail end of Beta) Dreamlords (played a little in Beta, but did not really like the movement controls, and style of play), 2Moons (I won 2 spots in their voice contest, played the beta a little bit), And a bunch of others. WarHammer Guild Beta, I like this one. I got the game and will play for a few months, see how it goes. Check the WAR site open beta starts soon. It is a fun game and worth checking out, even just for the Open Beta. I have a feeling this one will be around for a long time.

Re: First MMO

Let us know how you like Warhammer. My "little bro" is one of the devs there, but I've resisted. Just doesn't seem like my thing.

Re: First MMO

My first MMO was Star Wars Galaxies. My best friend's oldest brother got us hooked when he first showed us the game and let us play around on his account. That was the summer it launched and I was 12 years old. I played for about 2.5 years in an awesome guild. There was about 30 of us. I knew a bunch of the guys in RL and I still game with the people I met in SWG. It's still the most fun I've ever had in a MMO.

Re: First MMO

Playing with rl friends is a lot of fun!

A bunch of us went to GameWorks (has a bunch of gaming computers) and took over the back room. We had a blast and even got my hubby's bard epic after a few unsuccessful prior attempts at home. I called our guild together and Doffo called his guild and we went after Trak! That was insanely fun! Timing is everything.
